Re: Army List - Eldar - Wolfhounds (2000pts)

I have one thing to say: AV14.

You have one Brighlance yet a bunch of Hulls that can carry them.  Are you hoping to only face my skimmers and marines with this army?  Everyone else uses tanks!  That being said, you would be a good match for my usual assault configuration since you are totally anti MEQ here.

To take "all-comers" I'd add BLs or Starcannons to everything, getting points from dropping the waveserpent on the Dark Reapers.
War Walkers are made of tinfoil and glue, but some folks love them for their ability to alpha strike...

Footnote: MEQ (Marine EQuivalent) = T4 infantry with 3+ saves.  See also Necrons and Chaos

[In response to you editing the list after my previous comments]

You kept the Wave Serpent for your Heavy Weapons squad but dumped the Wraithlord.  I suppose this is where our preferences diverge since I think the WL is the best unit Eldar have after Uberfalcons.

[edit: I take it back.  you need the extra Wavesepent to give your opponent something to shoot at, I guess.  Target saturation and all that.  I still hate warwalkers though, but look forward to slaughtering them.]

If you insist on two Warwalkers then at least make them seperate squadrons.  You have the extra heavy slot now and it'll mean they take two seperate units to kill them, rather than dying from spillover shots from a single squad.

Re: Army List - Eldar - Wolfhounds (2000pts)

In my opinion, Shining Spears are much better than swooping hawks.  Those grenade packs aren't going to do much to MEQ armies.  The Shining spears have S6 T4 I5 Save 3+.  They can move like 24" with turbo boost, then assault.  Their fast movement makes them hard to hit.  The laser lance is awesome.  You can fire within 6" (S6 AP4), and they are power weapons (S6).  With your ubber initiative you will mostly strike first.  Since the laser lance is a power weapon, you ignore armor saves.  You can seriously damage a squad before taking return attacks, especially with S6.  A squad of 4 Shining Spears with an Exarch would have ~ 11 attacks.  On the charge against marines, you will hit around 5-6 times doing 4-5 kills before the enemy gets a chance to attack back.

For the same reasons, Banshees are awesome ground Assault troops.  Initiative 10, ignore grenades and cover, and they all have power weapons.  The only drawback is the S3.  With Fleet, you don't really need a transport.  Have them support the WraithLord.  He's a close combat maniac.

I don't think I'd waste transport on Dark Reapers.  Either make them a stationary platform during placement, or get a mobile heavy weapons platform like Vipers/Falcons with Bright Lances.  Falcons with Bright Lance, Pulse Laser, and Holo Field seems pretty awesome.  They can also carry troops (6), so you can put your WraithGuard in them if you want to.

I don't know about rangers.  I'm thinking a 10 man guardian squad with a Warlock and heavy weapon platform might be more effective and surviveable.

I've never played Eldar, so I'm no expert.  Just my 2 cents after looking at the available troop choices in Army Builder.

Re: Army List - Eldar - Wolfhounds (2000pts)

On the Falcons, With the BL and PL you only get to fire one at a time per turn.

Change the BL for a SC and you can fire both.

Re: Army List - Eldar - Wolfhounds (2000pts)

If you don't have a Farseer casting Doom, then I think the Banshee's might be much less effective.  They are a unit that HAS to wound since they can't take a counterpunch very well.

I'd consider having one large melee unit, rather than two small ones.  Granted, Harlies have Veil, so that will will improve your survivability, but I'm usually lucky to get 5 assault marines into combat from a squad of 11...(Chappy plus 10)

One assault canon would take down your entire Vyper squadron because of how the vehicle squadron rules work.  I'd only run one.

The Vypers are iffy. I would rather have 2 sepparate units but ran out of slots.

Re: Army List - Eldar - Wolfhounds (2000pts)

I just realized, you have essentially a melee eldar list.  4 small CC squads and a WL supported by shooty.  My main concern is scoring units.  every squad is 3 deaths away from irrelevance.  You either need bigger units or cheap scoring units that you hide away and then use to contest areas.  Skimmers don't do that in Cityfight, but they do in most regular missions.

Re: Army List - Eldar - Wolfhounds (2000pts)

I agree with RF, you need a larger CC squad.  Having 8 - 10 Banshees is much better because your Initiative + Power Weapons need to remove enough of the enemy so they can't hit back effectively.  You also need to survive the counter attack.  Doing the averages against MEQ: 7 Banshees + Exarch on the charge = 25 Attacks.  WS 4 vs. 4 = 12 - 13 hits.  S3 vs. T4 is 6 - 7 wounds with no armor saves.  If this squad supports the Avatar or WL, then you can pit them (or the exarch) against any characters in the ememy squad.  Each Banshee you add to the squad will give you almost 1 additional kill on the charge on average.  I think 8 total should be the lowest number in the squad.  I think I'd prefer 9 + Exarch.

Re: Army List - Eldar - Wolfhounds (2000pts)

Ok lets see, deffinalty going CC with this one it seems Smile.

I removed 2 Vypers and increased the BSs to a 10 man uint. And the HQs to a 8 man unit. the Pathfinders are now also 7 men units.
